How dare they....?

Imagine being stranded of FC Road... impossible? I just discovered otherwise...

The scene is like this... considering the annoying nature of the rains my friend and i decided to go to class taken in fergusson college by the wretched auto rickshaw. Its 9 o'clock and after going through a whirlwind of a class we were already a little tired and wished to go home. We do not stay in some other village, just Karvenagar but yet can you believe it 17 rickshawwalas refused us a ride!!

Firsty they have absolutely no right to do that, they are to take a passenger wherever he wishes to go even if its timbuctoo.
Secondly they had the nerve of asking us for 10 rupees more or worse one and a half times the fare...how dare they... it was 9.15pm not 1.15am!!
Thirdly they are so rude and uppish that they do not even bother to reply... they just ride off!!!

All this may seem trivial but it took us an hour and a lot of walking and nerve wrecking to finally reach home... ive learnt my lesson i prefer the lashing rains...

All this made me think...Its the same case everywhere... whether its a government office or even our college students section or the rickshawwalas, bus drivers, shop keepers ...we have to confront egotism and haughtiness...

How are we ever going to develop as a nation if the lower strata of society continues to be arrogant and wallow in some virtual pride!!

Friend hmm!!
And i totally agree with you the Horrible students' section..I would be surprised to see it change a few years down the lane

Though I did not understand what you all mean by students section, I do understand the "encounters" with the others ("rickshaw-wala..etc"). However with regards to govt employees, this is what Bernard Russell himself said: " All a govt employee wants to do is show that he has a strong influence on your life, cause thats what makes him feel powerful. If he was really motivated with the job he would definitely be polite."

Completely agree wit what Jammy (Bernard R.) says
When U r in need, u have to accept the terms and conditions they come up with..
but even they have to put up with those lashing rains.. its not that easy u see..

Walk from Fergusson to Karvenagar!! Even I stay (or rather used to stay) in Karvenagar .. and fortunately never had to walk. You are right when you say that the rickshaw wallahs cannot refuse a ride, however for so many years we have been seeing the same. If we talk sternly and let them know that we know that they cant refuse a ride - then they sometiems relent and take you :-P

However .. I disagree with ur last sentence. I don't think the lower strata has arrogance or virtual pride .. and even if they do -- this is not an example of it. The rickshaw-wallahs refuse a ride to these parts at night because of any of 2 reasons --
1. They live somewhere else and want a passenger who is going there -as they want to return home at that time.
AND/OR
2. They are more or less sure they wont get a return passenger from Karvenagar back into the city at this time of night - and dont want to ply an empty rickshaw.

You shud try the PMT services instead..
I took a bus once this monsoon during a similar problem and found the service fairly efficient (yeah the bus almost broke down once..but lets give them the benefit of doubt!)
At least the conductor was very polite in asking for ticket-money...
I wonder why so many of us are still unaware of Pune's public transport sytem...

@tejas --> Absolutely right + u save fuel!!

being from Mumbai, I had always found using a bus more convinient. I found that it is cheaper to travel by bus in Pune. But my cousins in Pune never ever thought that PMT was of any use. Actually, with respect to the support it recieves from Punekars, PMT rocks!!

Its not about being ignorant of the bus service... we considered that after the 15th rejection and walked till the deccan stop... but it was of no use as there is only one bus to our area which comes once in an hour... if we would have taken the kothrud bus we would have faced a similar problem once we got there... so you see we were practically stranded...
